Roving Exhibition in Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Action Committee Against Narcotics: Student Designs Receive Enthusiastic Response
To commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN), communication design students from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) created a logo and a series of souvenirs, including commemorative stamp covers featuring anti-drug ambassadors “Agent Don’t” and “Agent Hope”, as well as cushions, smartphone stands, notebooks, pens, bookmarks, sticky notes, coasters, stationery clips, and healthy snack packaging. The souvenirs, distributed during a roving exhibition, were well-received by the community.
Community Engagement Unit (CEU) collaborated with ACAN last year to organise a design competition for the 60th anniversary logo, souvenirs, stamps, and covers. Award-winning students CHAN Ting-wai and CHOW Tung-wing from Higher Diploma in Advertising Design of HKDI attended the exhibition at East Point City in Tseung Kwan O this month. They also participated in the recording of a major anti-drug TV variety show, " Let’s Stand Firm. Knock Drugs Out!" where they received their awards on stage.
Award-winning student CHAN Ting-wai shared that his inspiration came from the anti-drug message "Let’s Stand Firm. Knock Drugs Out!" He depicted the anti-drug ambassadors “Agent Don’t” and “Agent Hope” fighting against drugs using vibrant colours to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of drugs. Throughout the creative process, he gained valuable hands-on experience and expressed gratitude for ACAN's feedback, which helped refine his logo design. He said, "I am very glad to see our sketches exhibited and the souvenirs so well-received."
Perry LEUNG, Head of Department, Department of Communication Design of HKDI emphasised that this collaboration created a win-win situation. He said, "this project not only provides students with practical experience to showcase their creativity and professionalism but also enhances societal awareness and support for anti-drug efforts."
Students participating in the design competition visited drug rehabilitation facilities Christian New Life Fellowship and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre in June 2024 for research. They then revised their designs based on ACAN's suggestions, culminating in the successful completion of this meaningful project.
