Space-time Prism – A Journey Through Hong Kong's Past on the Tram
Students from the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) collaborated with Tramplus, the sister company of the Hong Kong Tramways, to bring their innovative project "Space-time Prism" onto the tram. Using this application equipped with augmented reality (AR) technology, the seniors relived their memories of riding trams in the past.
Comprising history and modernity, this journey began at the Western District's Whitty Street and travels through Central and Wan Chai to Causeway Bay. When the tram reached designated locations, tablets equipped with the "Space-time Prism" application played AI-generated old videos. Accompanied by ten HKIIT students from the Higher Diploma in Software Engineering and the Higher Diploma in AI and Mobile Applications Development, the seniors enjoyed the scenic views along the route, reminiscing about the neon lights along the tram tracks and the bustling atmosphere of Lee Tung Avenue. Some seniors, suffering from dementia, benefited from the use of old photos and sensory stimuli to evoke their memories, highlighting the project's invaluable contribution.
AI Korfball Coaching Platform – Discover Future Stars of Hong Kong
Hong Kong has excelled on the international stage in Korfball, consistently ranking among the world's top teams. In response to the Hong Kong China Korfball Association's mission to promote the sport and identify young talents, students from the Higher Diploma in Sports Studies with Smart Technology of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) and the Department of Sports and Recreation of Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) have collaboratively developed the "AI Korfball Coaching Platform". This initiative is actively being promoted in primary and secondary schools.
The platform utilises artificial intelligence to analyse the shooting techniques of members of the Hong Kong China Korfball Team, comparing them with those of participating students to assist in skill enhancement. The project team has also invited members of the Hong Kong China Korfball Team to create tutorial videos demonstrating various Korfball skills, enriching the platform's content and providing practical learning resources for schools.
By combining innovative technology with professional sports guidance, this initiative aims to engage more young people in Korfball, nurturing a new generation of talent in Hong Kong and further enhancing its international competitiveness in the sport.
Sea Glass Jewellery Workshop
Students from Diploma of Vocational Education (Fashion) of Youth College collaborated with T Cube Culture and the League of Ordinary Gentlemen (LOG) to recently hold a sea glass jewellery workshop in Cheung Chau for local residents and volunteer families of the LOG. Students first led the participants to Cheung Chau beach to collect smooth sea glass naturally polished over many years by seawater and sand. Then, using their fashion knowledge and skills, they taught the participants to make unique bracelets, necklaces, and keychains, while also sharing the importance of coastal conservation and sustainable development.
Participants felt excited and satisfied to be able to turn the sea glasses they collected by hand into jewellery. Some children said they would give the sea glass jewellery they made to their fathers as a belated Father’s Day gift.
