“Twenty-Four Vistas: The Inner Landscape” Art Exhibition - The Fusion of Art and Technology

Students from the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) have developed an immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experience for the "Twenty-Four Vistas: The Inner Landscape" Art Exhibition, organised by the Lok Chi Association, using technology to unlock the infinite possibilities of art. Breaking away from traditional frameworks, the exhibition transforms physical paintings and artworks into VR images, allowing visitors to step into a virtual world and gain deeper understanding of the mindsets and artistic achievements of artists with intellectual disabilities.

Supported by the Social Welfare Department's Arts Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities, the exhibition took place in late October at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC). It featured cement pot, ceramics and creative paintings by 24 talented artists with intellectual disabilities, showcasing their unique artistic visions and creative talents.

Engaged by CEU, seven students studying Higher Diploma in Games and Animation at HKIIT dedicated several months to the project. Using 3D modeling software, AI tools and game development engines, they integrated scenes with interactive elements to produce the VR exhibition. Visitors can appreciate the details of the artworks up close and explore the stories behind the creations in 360 degrees by wearing the VR headset.

The Opening Ceremony was held on 24 October 2025 at JCCAC. It was officiated by The Hon Mrs Selina CHOW LIANG Shuk-yee, JP, Patron of Lok Chi Association, Mr CHAN Wong-yuen, Chairperson of the Lok Chi Association Management Committee, Ir Dr Johh HUI, Principal of HKIIT, Ms Jenny KO, VTC Academic Director of Student Development Discipline and artist representative Ms CHOR Ka-yu. During her welcome remarks, Mrs Selina CHOW specially thanked the HKIIT students for bringing new elements to the art exhibition, which fully demonstrated the concepts of unity, mutual support and inclusivity.

Following the ceremony, officiating guests and VTC representatives toured the exhibition with student guides. They highly praised the students for their professionalism and technical skills, recognising them for achieving a new milestone in inclusive art.

The visitors also expressed appreciation for the VR experience. It deepened their understanding of the talents of artists with intellectual disabilities and allowed them to feel how technology bridges art and inclusion.
