Mother's Day Promotion for Osteoporosis Prevention Nutritional Menu
One of the finalists in the VTC Community Engagement Reward Scheme—"CommunityQuest"—is a team from the IVE’s Higher Diploma in Applied Nutritional Studies. Lined up by CEU, the students collaborated with residents of the Housing Society's Kwun Lung Lau to complete the intergenerational Mother's Day project, "Cooking with Love."
The workshop focused on osteoporosis prevention, with students designing a nutritional menu and cooking a delicious lunch featuring three calcium-rich dishes and a dessert. The menu included savoury chawanmushi, garlic lemon salmon, vegetable dumplings, and sesame yam cake.
In addition to teaching cooking in the nutrition studio's kitchen, the students conducted a session on osteoporosis and offered bone density tests, sharing dietary information on preventing the condition. They also prepared tea bags and other health-related supplements to give to participants. Residents, from primary school children to the elderly, praised the students for their dedication and professionalism, looking forward to their return in mid-May to learn about reading nutrition labels and purchasing calcium-rich ingredients in supermarkets.
“Dim Sum Battle” Board Game
Designed by students from the IVE’s Higher Diploma in Integrated Social and Health Services, the "Dim Sum Battle" board game recently had its first workshop at the Sham Shui Po District Elderly Community Centre of The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council. The students provided an experience session for the elderly and collected feedbacks from them.
The game revolves around familiar dim sum and tea themes, requiring participants to solve math problems and answer trivia questions, which is to enhance cognitive abilities and promotes social interaction among elderly. The participants were excited to see the nicely prepared dim sum props, and everyone had a great time!
