Mother’s Day Fun Dim Sum Workshop
To celebrate Mother’s Day, we recently collaborated with Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and Aberdeen Kai-Fong Welfare Association Social Service Centre (AKA) to host the “Mother’s Day Fun Dim Sum Workshop". This event brought together 10 pairs of caregivers and their mothers to learn how to make traditional Chinese Dim Sum—Pineapple Buns with Char Siu Filling—in celebration of this special day.
Many elderly participants have limited mobility and rarely go out, so they were thrilled to join this community activity alongside their children. Under the guidance of instructors, eight students from the Diploma in Chinese Cuisine showcased their VPET skills, teaching attendees how to roll dough, fill buns, and shape crispy crusts. The elderly participants followed the instructions closely and enjoyed tasting the fresh buns they created together with their sons and daughters, making for a truly delightful afternoon. To conclude the event, Dr Tommy LAU Wing-tong, the Vice-Principal of CCI, presented certificates to all participants, wrapping up the day perfectly.
After the workshop, caregivers expressed that both they and their mothers thoroughly enjoyed the experience and praised the professionalism of the students. Some students also shared that guiding the elderly in making dim sum was meaningful, believing that each delicious creation embodies the deepest love from children to their mothers.
