Small Potato Big Dream – Culinary Skills Workshop for SEN Students

Students from THEi’s Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Culinary Arts and Management partnered with Heep Hong Society to provide catering training and experiences for young people with special educational needs (SEN). This initiative aims to help them acquire relevant work skills and enhance their employment opportunities. The training workshop took place in June, where THEi students taught the participants how to make custard fruit tarts, lemon cookies, and coffee latte art, allowing them to take home their creations to share with family. Participants expressed that they thoroughly enjoyed the activity, which also sparked their interest in pursuing a career in the culinary field.

Collaboration on Design Project of SKH Youth Centre: Kitchen Renovation

Five students from IVE Higher Diploma in Architectural Studies collaborated with the H.K.S.K.H. Ma On Shan Children & Youth Integrated Service Centre to redesign a kitchen that have been in use for over 20 years. The renovation aimed to address several issues, including a cramped cooking space, disorganised tools, and work surfaces that were inaccessible to children. The students conducted multiple interviews with users and on-site measurements before sourcing materials and designing plans. Finally, they created a clearly zoned kitchen that separates the baking area, cooking area, and washing area. The new design features a central island with adjustable height to accommodate users of different heights.
