Immersive Psychosis Experience Promoting an Inclusive and Harmonious Community

Students from the IVE Higher Diploma in Social Work visited SKH Kei Hau Secondary School in April. Through an originally developed “Mental Health Experience Hub” and a web-based interactive game titled “Under the Label”, they provided secondary school students with a simulated experience of psychosis. This allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of the symptoms of the condition and its impact on patients’ daily lives, and to empathise with individuals in mental recovery.

Before the activity began, Social Work students introduced the content of the experience hub and the interactive game, as well as the background and current situation of psychosis, explaining the purpose of the activity. The “Mental Health Experience Hub” used multi-sensory stimulation to immersively recreate various symptoms of psychosis, enabling participants to experience the condition firsthand. Meanwhile, the web-based interactive game “Under the Label” guided students through different scenarios and choices, helping them understand the challenges and situations faced by people with psychosis.

After the experience, IVE students and the secondary school students reflected together on how discrimination, labeling, and stigma in society affect individuals in mental recovery. They also encouraged everyone to deepen their understanding, acceptance, support, and work together in promoting an inclusive community.
